I sent Bill two 917 baskets on the 29th, they arrived 5 days later. I emailed him the day before they arrived. I called him around 3PM CST the day of thier arrival, & was able to chat. They were shipped yesterday.
I just send my stuff to him, I have had great communication from him & great recones.
Sometimes he & Chris are working on a big order; Then they are pretty focused on the task at hand.
Believe me, he is cool & wants your business.

I live in Norman OK, and have driven the 1/2 hour up to Bill's shop a few times to get some re-coning done and buy some diaphrams. Let me tell you that its chaotic there. the phone never stops ringing; its quite often people just wanting advice or information and not really about business. Plus those guys do a lot of business as well. the amount of equipment in the shop is staggering. As of last year, there was no pure "front office" person to answer emails, take phone calls and the like. Bill generally is busier than a one legged man in a but kicking contest. Kevin

True, Bill and his crew are busy folks!

I can tell you that he's working on a way to relieve some of the pressure caused by the incessant telephone calls, etc. - it should get better soon.

If I lived close enough, I would try my hardest to get hired there! It would be like a dream come true to be able to work with all that audio equipment!

Well, you could learn alot working for an audio or speaker company!

Or you could learn you like listening to great speakers, more than you care for building and repairing them!

Me personally, I like field work, going out in the big world, and installing it, and making it happen! To me this is where its at!

I was on a mission last week (see my post about Urei 811A's and a 6500 amp elsewhere on this forum) which brought me close enough to GPA that I knew I had to find an excuse to stop in. Bill and Chris were waiting for me at the door with a smile and a handshake. Bill gave me the tour while Chris re-magnetized a pair of 416-8B's for me. The shop is both overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. I won't spoil it for others by saying any more than that. As for busy, well, I don't doubt that they are more than willing to help if you can catch them when they aren't helping someone else! If you are within 100 miles of Oklahoma City and want to breath some Altec air, call Bill and see if he can squeeze you in. I did, and it was great! forums

To me the most impressive thing at GPA was the bank of capacitors I saw when I looked in the back of the unit they use to remagnetize. I didn't ask how many Farads it totaled, but I do know he said it creates a magnetic field that will pull in anything that they leave laying nearby. Of course, the object is to saturate the magnetic field of the object inside, which is no small task. If you look at the field density of the gap in your friendly Altec 604-8K, you will find it to be of the same order of magnitude as that found in a MRI machine. You might want to check this link to relate that to the real world. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/mri2.htm
Pretty far off topic here, but thought it might be of interest, when you're thinking of getting your alnico remagnetized.
